Another request for advice is needed :) My next search after the crib mattress is for a car seat/stroller combo. Here is what I know/want and then I will follow with questions and needed advice....
- graco brand is first choice
- the travel system seems the way to go for me
- nothing too gender specific (no bright pink or purple)
I have read that minimum requirements for rear facing seats are 12 months, 20 pounds, but keeping baby in a rear facing seat as long as you can is best. So, what I'm asking is how long did you keep your baby in a rear-facing seat? How old or how much did they weigh before you switched?
I found one I really like- graco snugride infant seat with stroller, for a great deal. But... it is only safe for infants up to 22 pounds. I don't want to have to buy another rear-facing seat to keep her in until she is bigger. What if she is big and is 22 pounds before 12 months? I don't want to have to buy two more seats!
What are your thoughts, suggestions, opinions??? Should I look for one of the snugrides infant seats that holds up to 32 or 35 pounds?
Thanks moms!

Hey, we have a graco snugride, Johnny rode in it until he was about 8 months, then he switched to a big carseat that was still rear facing. When he was over 20 lbs, and over a year we flipped the carseat forward facing, it's one that he can use up to 45 or 50 lbs and then he'll move on to a booster seat. There was no way he could stay in the graco one any longer though, he was way too long for it and we couldn't carry him in it anymore.
Ryder was still not 20 pounds at one but I still put him forward - his carseat he has now can be used from newborn to 50 pounds so if you do have a chubby baby you can get her a big girl carseat and put it rear facing...I like my Gracos but they are really wide
Oh isn't being pregnant and getting ready for your little one so much fun?! I bought the Graco Safety Seat combo and I LOVE IT! Obviously I don't know about the rear facing ones yet... Good luck with everything!!
Okey dokey here is my two cents...
We kept Grace in her infant carseat until she was 12 months old and 20 pounds which most often will happen at the same time. She was pretty much hanging out of that thing because she was so long but we didn't want to buy another carseat until she was big enough for it. Most forward facing carseats will face the rear as well if your kiddo is still too young but weighs enough to face forward or vice versa. Graco is a great brand and I don't think you will have any trouble.
Are you set on getting a travel system, carseat/stroller combo? We did that and I really regret it. Most of the strollers in those are not very good strollers. We never use ours because of how terrible it turns and it is huge and awkward to pack up. Just not a good stroller. I wish we would have spent the money on a good carseat and a good stroller separately. I would suggest looking into different strollers before going with a combo dealio. You just need to determine what you will be using the stroller for. If you plan on jogging with it or taking a lot of walks then I would recommend getting a better one. If you don't plan on doing either than just hold out until she gets a little bigger and buy yourself a higher end umbrella stroller that can recline.
This just happened to me this weekend!!! I bought an infant seat with a matching stroller, but now my baby (who is 6 months) has grown out of it and we had to get two more (one for each car). Get one that is a convertible - you can use it rear facing until they are a year old and can switch it unitl they are 40 pounds. I wish we had done it this way now we are going to end up getting 3 carseats instead of the 2. I wish we had not wasted our money on the first one...
I wish we would have gotten the snugride! We got the bigger Graco carseat that fits up to 35 lbs. or something, which was pointless, since most babies are right at about 20 lbs. at a year when you turn them around anyways. Also, we got the Graco travel system, which I now hate. But if you get one of the smaller strollers you might like it more than our gargantuan one. If I could go back I would get a snugride carseat with a small stroller (one that can still hold your carseat but can fold up nice and small). Good luck! It's so fun picking stuff out, but you totally want to make a good investment! I'm so excited for you!
With Dax, we had a BabyTrend carseat. Hated it. One of the reasons, is that it only went up to 22lbs as well. that meant he was out of it at 6 months. No fun.
We put him in an Eddie Bauer carseat at that point, and swapped him forward a couple days before his first birthday (he weighed 26 lbs).
With our next, we will definitely get a car seat that allows at least up to 30 lbs. it's a big pain to wake up a baby to run in to the grocery store if you don't have to. However, this does mean that you probably can't just buy a travel system as a pack. You'll have to buy the car seat and stroller separate. My personal favorite is the Chicco KeyFit 30.
Good luck!
