G-Man

After 3 fast, blissful (most of the time) weeks I finally have it together enough to blog about the new addition to our fam! Long, detailed post for my memory and G to read one day :) I have decided I am destined to have children when my parents are on a cruise. B came one week late while my mom and dad were cruising in the Caribbean and G decided to come 2 weeks early while they were in Alaska. Talk about foiling Grandma’s plans to come and help us! Well, thankfully all worked out just fine and G came happy and healthy!

We were scheduled to have a c-section on the 15th, but he decided to come early! I never thought I would be lucky enough to go early… I was so unprepared thinking I still had a week to plan and get ready for him. No hospital bag, no arrangements for B, no groceries in the house, piles of laundry, and a messy house. I guess that’s how normal labor goes- you never know when they are coming! But, I was just so hung up on having a day and time scheduled that I was planning on getting everything ready that weekend. Oh well…. And we were supposed to have B’s birthday party that Saturday, so she will have to celebrate another day! Good thing she’s only 2 and doesn’t know the difference J I’m sure we’ll hear about it one day….

So, Wednesday the 9th I was having contractions all afternoon. Nothing too major, just here and there. We decided to go to Tanner’s first softball game of the season since they weren’t bad. They started to get more intense there, but I knew once I got home I could just lay down and they’d go away. Well, they didn’t. I decided to go to bed and after a couple of hours when Tanner came in they were still coming. By this time it was midnight and they were coming every 10 minutes. Tanner was freaked and sure we needed to call my doc. I planned to “sleep it out”, bad idea, and hoped they would go away. The thought of having G that night was out of the question! So many things left to do. And who would be there to help with B and my mom was still on her cruise! Well, after 3 hours of consistent, more intense contractions we finally called my dr. I was really protesting the idea because I did NOT want to be sent home saying I was just being a baby… But Tanner insisted and was freaking out just a tad more than me… My doctor didn’t call us back for about an hour and a half, and Tanner kept saying “call her back, we need to go in now”. Such a great husband, so worried about me! She told us to come in and see what was going on. Since I was planned for c-section, they didn’t want me contracting at all because of the risks with my incision. We called our bishop and his angel of a wife drove half hour to our house to get B. Meanwhile, we were running around the house trying to get some what ready and prepared. I was just throwing stuff in bags and not really paying attention to what I was doing.

We left our house about 5:30 and ventured to the hospital. The half hour drive was awful with contractions getting worse, especially compared to the two minute drive we had in Logan. Once they admitted me of course my contractions eased up. What is it about hospitals that make your body stop going into labor so you look like a fool when they ask you how you are doing? That’s just how the nurse midwife looked at me when she saw the readings from my contractions. Like I was a big fat pansy. “Well, these are only 8-10 minutes apart and not crazy. Your lips look a very dry, you’re probably just dehydrated.” Ummm… don’t ever tell a woman in labor she’s contracting due to dehydration. Wrong response lady. She still checked me and with a “oops I’m an idiot” face, told me I was at a 3. HA. Told you so….. And p.s. remember how I’m not supposed to be contracting at all so my uterus doesn’t bust open? Yeah, thanks a lot. Sorry for the rant everyone.

So… needless to say we were having a baby that day! They admitted me and scheduled my section. My doctor came up and told us she had one other surgery and then we were next! Just an hour or so and we would see baby G! We went back into the OR around 10:00 am and they got me all set up. They gave me a spinal and it was so crazy how fast it worked. And, how painless it was. Thanks for a great anesthesiologist! After about 10 seconds my legs started getting tingley and I asked if that was normal, they said it was and laid me right down. They started and Tanner still wasn’t in there, so I was panicking a little. But he came right in and stayed right by me the whole time. It was such an out of body experience. You can totally sense your body and legs, but can’t move them. There were several times when I wanted to move my legs and couldn’t, and that was the weirdest and most uncomfortable part.

It seemed like forever, and I kept asking, “are we almost done?” But I’m sure it was really only about 15 minutes by the time they started and had him out. At 10:26 am out came our big boy! Weighing in at 8 lbs., 20 inches, he was healthy and big for two weeks early! The best part was that he came out crying- something every mom wants to hear! And that’s about the only time you are glad to hear your baby scream like that. Bridget came out silent and that was terrifying, so we were so grateful to hear his little screams!

They cleaned him up, took him to the nursery and finished sewing me up. I got really sick towards the end so they gave me so drugs that made me super sleepy and out of it. The next thing I knew I was back in my room and they brought in Grayson! I was so glad he was healthy and out J The next few days were a blur and full of ups and downs, but all I can say is how blessed I am for another healthy, happy, Deaton baby!!!! Here are some pics of our little buddy!

Getting cleaned up- we didn't get a "weight" picture because Tanner couldn't get around to the table... Boo

Don't we look great.... But we need the memory right?

Grandma Deaton flew in on a red eye flight to help take care of B!

This looks just like his big sis....

This one is Bridget to a T.............

Look at those fatty cheekies!!! I kiss them A LOT.

All set to go home!

Happy Easter Basket :)

Coloring eggs!  Every time we'd try to get her to say "Happy Easter!" it would come out "Happy Easter Basket or Bunny!"  I guess it's hard to teach a two year old the real concept of Easter, we are working on it...  B loved every seond of this experience, including wearing her apron!  This happy picture was taken just moments after an entire mug of pink egg dye was spilled on my upholstered kitchen chair.  Thank goodness for cheap egg dye, so the pink was quite weak in color.  Also, thanks to Tanner's incredible car detailing skills he was able to clean the chair which now looks brand new.  Note to self for next table: no upholstered chairs with small children.

Patiently, sort of, awaiting the eggs to be colored.  This was the hardest part- she kept wanting to stick her hands in the dye or drink it!  Her new favorite face, taken from her cousin Maddy's gaunt face :)

All done, complete with Bridget's "bee egg", Grayson's basket ball egg, and Dad's "Easter Bunny egg".  Her new "cheese" smile includes a crooked lower jaw if you can tell.

"CHEESE"

Awaiting the neighborhood egg hunt at the park- so much fun and TONS of kids.  In the 0-3 age group no parents were allowed to go out on to the grass, so this led to the next picture...

Bridget just standing there by herself not knowing what to do....  Good thing she is still at the age she doesn't care if she got candy or not.  And she didn't cry!

B's new bestie in New York- Archer!

Or should I say Boyfriend?  Yes, she likes to make the moves :)  He's the cutest thing and they love to play together!

B's other bestie, Rowan.  Archer's older sister- she is so good with Bridge!  B calls her "Ronan..."

The Easter haul.   Look at the crooked smile- it comes from Tanner I think :)

Off to church.  We did have a fit due to no Easter basket being taken to church.

Egg hunting in the front yard!  She still asks everyday to go hunting for eggs..

Her new pretty Easter dress :)

We had a great Easter with some decent weather for egg hunting.  We enjoyed many activities including seeing the Easter Bunny at the Power Plant in Niagara Falls, an egg hunt at the neighborhood Assembly of God church, and a BBQ with our Bishop and his family (Archer and Rowan's dad is our Bishop).  They are a fantastic family who have helped us so much in getting settled in the area and inviting us to do some fun things!  We are so thankful for their friendship and help with the move.
HOPPY EASTER!

March Madness, not basketball...

B's new place to hide... Too bad she can't get out by herself, this creates a problem!

I think there is a photo of me at this exact age doing the same thing- eating good ol dirt...

Green breakfast, well "Brinner" for us!  B loved the Mickey shaped pancake, now that is all she wants for breakfast!  "mickey waffle..."

Just some light reading on her own :)

Wrapped up burrito style!  "mommy, taco burrito!"  She loves to get wrapped up and then try to stand up and walk.  She always wants it done in her "Bieber"- bigger blankie...

First picnic of the year was a success.  So fun to have a big yard and trees for shade!

Visiting dad at work for lunch, safety first!

A Saturday at the Buffalo Science Museum.  This place is HUGE!  We didn't even make it half way through, B could have lasted all day in this one room, fishing!

The 3D turtle movie- not so sure at first, "is loud" she said, but ending up loving all the cartoon turtles.  And don't worry, there WAS an environmental agenda....

The "glo" table with super fun see-through magnetic shapes.  I think Dad liked this table even more than B...

Cooking with Mama :)

Matchy matchy aprons Grandma Deaton made us for Christmas!

Rockin out on the guitar and drums!

Lots of fun things going on this month, too bad we only had one great week of weather in March- guess we'll have to wait until June to go back outside.  There are so many places we want/need to see in Western NY and all around here.  People keep recommending great things to do and see and our "tourist" list gets longer and longer.  We can't wait to visit the falls when it gets nice sometime soon.  Can't believe we live 10 minutes away and still haven't seen them.....  We'll get there eventually!

Turkey Day

Bridget loved this little seat.  She would open up the doors, take a seat, and read a book!  That's my kind of reading nook.  We loved living at Grandma and Grandpa's house!  She quickly adjusted and loved her room in the basement with her own tv- I don't think that will happen again.  But, we had a great time being there and are so grateful to my parents for letting us stay and wear out our welcome!

One of B's favorite things to do when Dad and Grandpa got home from work was to have them draw with her.  Grandpa started the infamous "happy" face.  Now, she wants everyone to draw a "happy"!

Building a tent with grandma!  She loves to be under her blankies in tents and forts.  This was one of the many locations of said forts....

I guess we were too busy eating to take too many pictures on Turkey Day 2011.  We were with my family this year and everyone was there except Lindsay and Riley.  We had appetizers early and then a great dinner later in the afternoon.  Norm and Tanner were the shrimp kings.  Plenty of shrimp for all ye seafood lovers.  We found out the day before Thanksgiving that we were having a boy.  We wanted to wait to tell everyone on Turkey day with a grand reveal at the dinner table with the name on his nametag.  It was either Grayson or Baby Girl!  And.... da da dum....
GRAYSON he shall be known!  Not really a grand reveal, but a fun way to say we're having a boy!

Oh Hi Blog, I've missed you...

Hello, I'm back.  Here's the thing: not working, living with my parents, and being a stay at home mom really took up my time.  Whatever, who am I kidding- I had all the time in the world.  There is no excuse to not blogging other than I pretty much felt sick from September to January.  Then we moved, that's right we live in New York now!  So, here's to not being lazy and keeping in touch...  We'll start in 2011 and catch up til now in the next few posts!

Fall 2011

Meeting Big Blue at the Aggie Reunion- B was not a fan..  She did like the chips however.  And she liked the football game, well she liked all the treats we provided her with.  What a great, sunny, warm day for Aggie Football!  I can't remember if they won or not- but we had a great time going to Logan for a day of fun!

All together for a birthday- could be Mom's?!  Hard to keep track with all 19 of us :)  We try to get together for everyone's birthdays, but there are so many of us now we usually end up combining two birthdays into one party.  The only monts we don't have birthdays are Feb, June, and July.  Guess baby number 3 might have to be in one of the months to even it out!  Maybe this wasn't even a birthday... Ha.  But I love how much my family gets together on Sundays for family dinners- we always have great food, good laughs, and lots to chat about!  We went to have pie at Kam and Brandy's new house (well the location of their new house) just down the street from my parents.  So excited for them to be building a new home!

Sneaking a "canny".  No matter how hard I try to hide the chocolate chips in the lazy susan, B manages to weasel her little arms and hands in there to find them.  I figured if she was clever enough to discover them, then she should at least be rewarded with a treat.  My justification for not watching her...

The Great Pumpkin find!  We found a great pumpking patch that still had great pickins the week before Halloween.  But, the line on a Monday night, not so good.  We still enjoyed being out in nice fall weather people watching!  B loved to pick up all the tiny pumpkins and carry them around.  It was hard to get her to go home...

Witches night out- we had more fun than B I think...  Our first trip to Gardener Village for the cute, festive event.  I think a new tradition in our books since teh Pumpkin Walk in Logan is out :(  We sure missed going to that this year!

Dressing up as Willy Wonka

Bridget LOVES Betty :)  And I think Betty likes her too!  Tanner and I stayed with Mylee's kids for about a week in October while they were in Florida.   It really was more of the kids watching Bridget for me!  Mylee's kids are the best- they pretty much run the house themselves and don't need to be told to do their homework, walk the dog, do their chores, or help with B.  They were lifesavers as I was pretty sick that week with baby G.  It was super fun to stay at their house and watch B play with their dog Betty.  I have a feeling I might get sucked in to getting a dog in a few years...  I wouldn't mind if the dog is anything like Betty.

Playing with cousins!

Our little witches brew watching to "TB".  Mylee had all her Halloween books in this cauldron and B would pull them out every night, throw in her blankie, and climb in to watch "TB".  This was the perfect little seat for her!

Halloween party at Grandma's with all the cousins!  My mom did such a fun party with the kids this year including:  digging for bones, donut on a string, pin the tail on the cat, pumpking carving, cookie decorating, and fun spooky dinner (jack-o-lantern pizza, wiches chicken fingers, pumpking cheese roll, etc).  Such a great night for all the kids to play together!!!

We love treats!

I've got a golden ticket!

Our little Oompa Loompa isn't so little anymore :( She is growing up too fast!  We had lots of fun this Fall and Halloween.  Our first trip trick-or-treating was a success!  B loved it, other than the mad scientist neighor and scary house down the street.  We loved that we only had to take her to a couple houses and she was satisfied.  Here's to years and years of dressing up and trick-or-treating!
